the nitty-gritty

One adjective that has been used to discribed me is absent-minded. Simply said, I am forgetful, especially all things with short-term nature. As a result, I have number of notebooks, post-it, my planner and other methods of reminder, but even so, I still forget. Needless to say, planning things isn't my forte. Planning things, big or small, bring me extreme stress, not due to the planning of the event itself, but the effort of having to remember things that are important/crucial to the plan in the first place. I am not ashame to admit that I have been pretty fortunate in the past in term of planning big trips aboard since I have someone always managed to be either be a part of a group or a part of a university that would take care of most of my trip planning i.e: when to get the ticket/visa/shots.

Planning my trip to Vietnam is the first time I am flying completely solo (hehe... pun), and man, it is tough. Once I got over the initial high of booking the ticket, I am in company of a sleuth of other obligations, visa, immunization shots, travel insurance blah blah blah, and my number one concern is to NOT forget even just one thing, and man, it is not an easy task. I am leaving in less than a month, and just last week I realized that I needed to get a visa for Vietnam. Of course, I know you need visa to get into other places, but each has a different rule pertaining this matter. For my AB trips, it was with the help of my site leaders, and with UK, it came with the school paper work. I mean, who freakin' knew that the Vietnamese government is actually really tough about this, only providing tourist or visitor visa either for either 1 or 3 months, and if you are planning to stay longer, further extension paperwork is required. However, due to the government hoping to attract more tourist attention, the process of obtaining a visa is easier to obtain. Thanks to the internet, I found out that I don't need to go to any Embassy or going through any complicated paper work process to obtain this visa, and I am not too late. These last few sentences sound like I'm doing a promotion for tourism in Vietnam haha.

Sigh of relief? Maybe. Though I still have the travel insurance stuff to figure out. Let's hope I don't forget...

EDIT: It turned out that I actually bought my travel insurance stuff a while ago after I booked my ticket. I thought it was insurance for my flight but it turned out to be insurance for the entire trip. Ah ha ha...
